Instructors: Visiting Mearns Academy One day or half day per week.
Course and Department information
S1/S2 Music Courses include introduction to playing keyboards, drumming, guitar, bass guitar, percussion and singing.
Listening covers a chance to discover and understand all aspects of music including many different styles including world music.
Inventing includes a wide variety of styles including technology.
Courses are available at all levels in Standard Grade.
NQ include Courses from Int. 2 through Higher to Advanced Higher.
Units in performing on one or two instruments and Technology are available at all levels from Int.1 to Adv H.
A successful Junior Choir meet on a weekly basis and perform at end of term events and enter the Aberdeen Music Festival.
A Senior/Staff choir form and rehearse after school and work for presentations when required.
The annual Young Musician of the Year Competition offers the chance for players of all ages on any instrument to enter at Junior, Intermediate or Senior levels.
Prizes awarded for runner up and winner in each category and an overall Young Musician is also selected.
Large scale productions including Musicals, Pantomimes, Showcases etc take place on a regular basis and involve many departments in the school.
Students are encouraged to attend Youth Orchestra, Ensembles etc at the various Music Centres throughout the area.
Many students are in their own bands and regular band nights are held in the area.
