Course Outlines : Modern Languages

S1 and S2

All pupils study French in S1 and S2.  We use Métro 1 and Métro 2 textbooks, workbooks, worksheets, internet resources and project work to give pupils a thorough knowledge of how the French language works. 

S3/S4

In S3, pupils have the choice between continuing with French, taking a crash Standard Course in Spanish or taking both languages. 

The four elements of communication are assessed in Modern Languages at Standard Grade:

-Reading (exam at the end of S4)

-Listening (exam at the end of S4)

-Writing (coursework throughout S3 and S4)

-Speaking (exams done in class throughout S3 and S4)

Higher

At Higher level we not only study the language at a greater depth, but we also study media in the foreign language.  We watch films, read novels and use the internet to listen to foreign radio stations and read newspapers.  Please see the ‘Useful Links’ in the left hand main menu or Internet Links section in the Modern Languages menu for links to some of these pages.
