Why study Modern Studies?
Modern Studies is studied by all pupils in S1 and S2. After that pupils can choose to sit Standard Grade or Higher Modern Studies. The subject gives pupils the opportunity to learn about society today and the key events which dominate our world. Furthermore, Modern Studies also gives pupils a range of transferable skills.
Brief Course Outline
In S1 and S2 pupils learn about human rights, democracy and conflict. In S3/S4 the course focuses on British and American society. Meanwhile, in Higher pupils look more in detail at British politics and wealth and health within the UK. The department also runs Advanced Higher.
Excursions/Visits
The department is active in promoting a number of different opportunities. In the last year pupils have visited the Scottish Parliament. In addition, the Red Cross and Robert Smith MP have spoken to Modern Studies classes.
