Travel and Tourism



Purpose 

The principal aim of Travel and Tourism is to prepare students for employment and this course acts as a starting point from which students pursue a career in the industry. The course may also be of interest to anyone wishing to study travel and tourism as part of general education or as a consumer. he course at Intermediate 2 is designed to introduce students to basic skills, knowledge and understanding relating to a range of occupations in travel and tourism. The course provides a sound broad-based foundation in travel and tourism by examining the development and growth of various sectors of the industry as well as the impact which the industry has on people and places. There is also the opportunity to examine the geographical context of travel and tourism or to develop basic skills in customer service. Emphasis is placed on the role of travel and tourism in the local area with a brief investigation into the key functions of promotion and technology.


Recommended Entry

White entry is at the discretion of the centre, students would normally be expected to have attained one or more of the following:


Standard Grade English at General level or above

Standard Grade Geography at General level or above

Course or units at Intermediate 1 Geography.
