On Tuesday 24 of June, the new Higher class took part in their first fieldwork exercise of the session. As part of their Biosphere topic, Mrs Wallace and Miss Lock took them to St Cyrus beach to collect data about the psammosere system which exists along this stretch of coastline. In groups of 4, the class gathered data about the vegetation and shape of the sand dunes in order to help them understand how a sand dune system develops. The class responded well to the challenge and spent the best part of an hour and a half gathering the specialised data they needed to answer this question by the end of term:
“Does the sand dune system at St Cyrus display the characteristics you would expect of a typical psammosere?”
